So I’ve discovered that I’m not exactly the best at keeping up with a blog, but I have known for a while that I do always try and take on too much for my own good.
What Have I Been Doing?
Naturally, quite a lot! I competed in the NYC Midnight competition and in the second round I came first! However, I didn’t make it through to the next round since I didn’t win any points in the first. But, this small win tells me that I can indeed, write.
I’ve been working on my two feature films Aela and the Rings of Eternity, now just called Rings of Eternity, and I’ve completely redrafted, reimagined, and edited my first every screenplay Broken Piano into a completely new beast. And I love it. I really feel that I’ve hit my niche with this feature.
And finally, I’ve been working on my final dissertation for my degree which is coming along swimmingly.
What’s my Plan?
The plan for Glasgow largely remains the same. But, from my hand-in next month, I’m going to be moving to the Isle of Iona on the west coast of Scotland for six months to live and work in a hotel.
Whilst this might not sound that glam, I’m really excited. I like this kind of solid work, and I’m going to be surrounded by white beaches, I’m taking stacks of books along with me, and as much space as I need to write.
I’ve just started planning and working on my third feature film, largely based on the island too. I’m really hoping to hit home with my style on this next one. Already I feel like this film is going to speak volumes about who I am as a person and my philosophies in life.
Competitions. Festivals. Classes. I’m doing as much as I can to up my game.
I’m going to submit Broken Piano for the Austin Screenwriting Festival, one of the best and biggest in the world. I’m feeling pretty damn good about it. Even if I don’t place, I’ll get invaluable feedback.
I’m also taking part in the next NYC Midnight Screenplay contest next month, and I feel even more prepared to do some winning again.
By the end of this year, I’m hoping to have completed three feature scripts and be working on a fourth.
Ciao for Now
Ciao for now, I’ll leave it at that for today and next time (soon) hopefully talk about my long-term plan for building and setting up a writers retreat somewhere in the world! It’s an idea in the works, but I love the concept so far.
